When we look at Peter we see him as a favorite disciple when he was with Jesus, but he was also a weak man who fell easily. However, after receiving the Holy Spirit he gradually began to grow spiritually. In time he was able to see as Jesus saw, and from some point Peter began to be able to do some of the work Jesus did in his public ministry. Isn’t that exciting? God took Peter, an ordinary man, and used him as a starting point for missions.
The Gospels, Acts, and First and Second Peter record the life of Peter. Through his life, and through his words and actions, we see his weaknesses and see areas in which we are similar to him. I’d like to apply the process of his growth as a disciple to our lives today.
This book is divided into two sections. The first section discusses the life and experiences of Peter when he was walking with Jesus. The second section discusses his life after Jesus’ resurrection, when he lived filled with the Holy Spirit. Each section is divided into 3 parts, and each part has 4 – 6 points to concentrate on, each with its own message. As there are 31 points, it is possible to study one per day for a month.
The book begins with the scene when Peter first meets Jesus and ends in Acts with Peter’s mission work. With the exception of a few of the parts, the book generally follows the order of Peter’s story.
I have used instances of Peter’s actions and speech as themes. Each theme can be taken and meditated on, as well as be easily applied to daily life. In order to understand each theme more easily, I gave examples that can provide wisdom.
Weak Peter! Peter, the great apostle who received a great calling. Peter, by being filled with the Holy Spirit, was able to see with the eyes of Jesus. Peter, who discovered God’s will! Peter, who was obedient to his calling according to God’s will. I want to be a Peter in this generation. I want to be a Peter in the generation who runs towards the truth. I want to be a Peter in this generation who accomplished things for God’s big picture and who rides great waves.
